Statement of Ethics
and Procedures
This document is available to anyone practicing at Boise Zen Center; its intent is to promote harmony within the Community regardless of race, class, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation or ethnicity. The Sixteen Bodhisattva Precepts are the foundation of Buddhist practice and guide our actions as Sōtō Zen Buddhist practitioners.
They are included in this document along with detailed explanations of ethical standards i.e. appropriate/inappropriate actions, student/teacher relationships, and specific procedures for addressing improper actions. These procedures range from informal resolutions to a formal process with the Grievance Committee of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association. Anyone who practices at Boise Zen Center may contact the SZBA.
The Board of Directors of Boise Zen Center is committed to solving problems and differences that arise from all inappropriate actions and will call upon the SZBA if problems cannot be resolved within the community and/or with a professionally certified and qualified mediator.
With bows,
Rev. Jisen Coghlan
