                                                           Silence transforms our minds

This is how the practice was handed down; I was trained in the Soto Zen tradition within the Katagiri lineage. And these photographs aren't here to say that this is the be all, end all of how to practice zazen. They are displayed in gratitude to Katagiri, my great grandfather teacher and to all my teachers and mentors who have offered guidance. What I want for everyone who finds their way to Zen Center, is to explore how to sit and feel at ease to ask questions, become explorers.

Zazen is alive, indescribable, and beyond description. You can't learn zazen, you have to experience it. Maybe it will touch your heart and ignite curiosity. For instance, we can explore the weight of the body- pelvis making contact with the cushion, hands nesting one above the other, and breathing-the rising and falling of the lower abdomen. We allow the body to be the cornerstone and anchor the mind. Tune into the natural forces of gravity and 'being breathed'. We exist because of our breath; it continues as long as we are alive. It's reflexive, how could we make it happen?

All of this is an invitation to open your heart. We're getting in contact with what we’re experiencing. Everything is welcome. Come with a willingness to explore and ask questions. Jump into being fully alive. It will be lovely having you dance with us.
